Constructing Change Safeguarding Policy

  1. Introduction 

    Constructing Change is dedicated to creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for everyone engaging with our programs, events, and online platforms. This Safeguarding Policy outlines our commitment to protecting the welfare and rights of children, young people, and vulnerable adults who interact with Constructing Change, including during site visits, educational activities, and online engagement.

  1. Scope of the Policy 

    This policy applies to all Constructing Change staff, volunteers, partners, contractors, and visitors to our website and social media channels. It covers interactions online and in-person activities, including Constructing Change Site Days under the Constructing Change – Educate initiative.

  1. Safeguarding Principles
    • Welfare First: The safety and well-being of children, young people, and vulnerable adults are paramount.
    • Inclusion: We promote equality and protect individuals from discrimination, abuse, and exploitation.
    • Accountability: Clear safeguarding measures are in place, and all incidents are acted upon promptly.
  1. Safeguarding Online 

    We are committed to ensuring that Constructing Change’s online platforms are safe and free from inappropriate or harmful content:

    • Moderation of website content, comments, and user interactions.
    • Reporting channels for users to flag concerns or harmful content.
    • Compliance with data protection laws and secure storage of personal information.
  1. Safeguarding During Events and Site Visits 

    Constructing Change is committed to ensuring that all activities involving children and young people, including school visits to live construction sites, are carried out safely:

    • Comprehensive risk assessments will be undertaken by both the school and the contractor and shared with all parties upon request.
    • Appropriate adult-to-child ratios during events.
    • Children will never be left alone with volunteers or site staff.
    • DBS checks for staff and volunteers involved in regulated activities with children or vulnerable adults, in accordance with UK safeguarding legislation.
    • Clear health and safety protocols communicated to all participants.

  1. Roles and Responsibilities
    • Safeguarding Officer: Oversees the implementation of safeguarding measures and handles reported concerns.
    • Volunteers and Staff: Trained in safeguarding protocols and responsible for ensuring a safe environment.
    • Participants and Partners: Expected to follow safeguarding guidelines and report any concerns.
  1. Confidentiality and Data Protection 

    Constructing Change respects confidentiality and will only share information when required to protect individuals or comply with legal obligations.

  1. Monitoring and Review 

    This policy will be reviewed annually and updated as required to ensure ongoing effectiveness and compliance with safeguarding best practices.
